HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, Friends, another year has come and gone.  2012 was not an ordinary year.  It ended with an extraordinary event that will not repeat for another 25,625 years.  Several of Earth cycles culminated on the date of 12-21-2012, a 5,125 year cycle and a 25625 year cycle.  There was a lot of speculation about the fate of planet Earth on this date which  marked the end of the Mayan Calendar.  Many predicted the end of the Earth and Hollywood had a hayday with films depicting the demise of our planet.  Because it is God’s will, life continues on planet Earth.  The question now is……”Is this the end of a cycle, or the beginning of a new one?  Or, perhaps both.

I believe we are at the dawning of a new age.  Astronomers say we are at the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius.”   As inhabitants of the beautiful planet with a bright blue dome, we look to a better world in this new age.  We look to a world of cooperation and love, a place where we realize we are one.  Certainly not one in that we are copies of one another, but one in that we are all valued parts of human consciousness, all part of God’s human family.

We wonder how to create a new age of love, peace, and cooperation when it seems there is so much around us that is not in allignment with those tresured concepts.  My belief is we’d better figure it out because if we fail we may not have an earth to enjoy.  I know I cannot change anyone directly, but I can affect those around me when I change my own expectations.  When I live in a spirit of hope, integrity, love and cooperation, I do affect those around me.  Dr David Hawkins says that when enough of us live in peace, harmony, and intgrity our collective consciousness will tip the scales and will counter-balance  Earth’s negativity.   My challenge to you is to keep your focus on being the embodiment of love.  Love eminates from your heart.  Lead your life based on the desires of your heart.  Leave judgment and criticism behind.  Believe in the inate goodness of all.  Know within the heart everyone has a spark of divine.  See the world as a beautiful perfect place and when enough of us do just that, so it will be.

For now, Earlynn’s Just sayin’:  “Happy New Year!  God’s peace be with you.”

It’s the Story You Tell Yourself

I’ve heard it said and I believe it’s true:  “It is never what happens that really matters; It’s the story you tell  yourself about what happens that makes all the difference.”

Years ago I read about a study done to determine the affect alcoholism has on children raised by alcoholic parents.  Adults who were raised as children by alcoholic parents were interviewed.   Among those interviewed were two brothers.  The older brother was himself an alcoholic living an unproductive life of meager means and constant struggle.   The younger brother it seemed was just the opposite in almost every way.  He was a successful business owner leading a happy personal life and was a respected volunteer in his community.

The final question of the interview was; “What is the defining factor that has shaped your life?”  To the amazement of the interviewers both brothers gave the same answer.  They both said, “What would you expect being raised by an alcoholic?”  Their answers say it so perfectly…….It is never what happens that really matters.  It’s the story you tell yourself about what happens that makes all the difference.

The older brother told himself a story that became a stumbling block.  He used that stumbling block to justify his failures.  The younger brother told himself a story that became a stepping stone to a better life.  What we can learn from all this is that sometimes our actions and motivations lead others to follow our footsteps, and other times they cause others to take a totally different course.

Think about the stories you tell yourself everyday.  Is it possible that some of your stumbling blocks could be turned into stepping stones?  Only you can answer that question, but the question is definitely worth asking.

Take a Leap of Fantasy With Me!

It is said the first step to learning is to understand you do not now know all the answers.  Well, that’s me……I know I do not have all the answers and I know I have much to learn.  I try to keep my mind open.  It is in that spirit, I pass this on to you.  Take a Leap of Fantasy with Me.

In trying to understand the meaning of the date 12-21-2012, I have read volumes.  So I truly believe that date has significant value for all of us.  I believe global warming is a result of the earth’s place in our rotation through the universe.  Our current  position in the universe is also responsible for the horrific storms and out of control fires we on earth have endured over the past few years.  At two times 6 am  and 12 pm on the 12-21-2012 the earth’s equator and that of the moon and our sun will be in exact allignment  with the equator of the largest sun in the Milky Way.  Earth will also be in perfect allignment with the dark streak that runs through the Milky Way….a place believed to be zero gravity.

I believe this is a significant event.   So, in this spirit, I’ll pose a few questions.  What if this date really ushers in the end of time?  A time when earth seems to stand still.  A time when part of earth remains in the light for what would be a day, a night and a day, while the other half of earth remains in the dark for a like period of time.  That would be the end of time, wouldn’t it?

Scientists now have learned that the earth does not orbit the sun in a flat orbit, but because  the sun  itself is orbiting through the univese, the earth orbits the sun in a kind of up and down vortex rotating counter clockwise.  Now take that leap of fantasy with me and ask yourself what if after the end of time, the earth then begins to rotate clockwise and the sun comes up in the West as prophecy has fortold?

What a trip that would be!   If you are intrested, the link below will take you to a lecture given in Boulder, Colorado last November showing the science behind my leap of fantasy.  It takes about an hour but is very entertaining.

A Christmas Orange

Next time you go shopping for oranges, take a minute to really feel an orange.  Enjoy the smell, close  your eyes and feel your mouth salavate as you think of eating a juicy flavorful section.  There was a time in the not too distant past when an orange was considered a rare treat.  We have become so accustomed to our easy access to this sweet juicy fruit we don’t treasure it as we should.

One of my favorite Christmas stories is entitled A Christmas Orange.  The story is about an orphan boy named Jake.  Jake lived with nine other children in a home for orphans.  The home was supported by what contributions the home sould secure. The meager contributions meant very little was spent on anything not considered a necessity.  There was very little to eat and in wintertime the home was almost never warm because fuel was expensive.  But at Christmas time there always seemed to be a little more to eat and the home seemed a little warmer.  It was a time for more than usual enjoyment; but more than this there was the orange.  It was the only time of the year that such a rare item was provided, and it was coveted by each child like no other thing they ever possessed.   They could save it for several days, admiring it, feeling it, loving it and contemplating the moment they would eat it.  Truly it was the peice de resistance to the Christmastide – and the year – for many would wait until New Year’s Day or later to eat it.  Often it would start to dry out before they would eat it, wanting to save and treasure it as long as they could.

On this particular Christmas day Jake had broken one of the rules of the home in some small manner, and his punishment was loss of the orange privilege.  After a year of waiting for this rare occasion……this most desired of all rewards was denied.  Jake had pleaded for forgiveness, said he was sorry, that he would do better in the future, but to no avail.  Although the offense was rather minor, it was an infraction.  And the home was a regulated society and obedience to the rules was required.  Jake spent Christmas Day empty and alone.  It seemed the other children didn’t want to associate with a person who didn’t have an orange.

Nighttime arrived, and this was worst of all.  Jake could not sleep.  He felt there was no love in the world…..no forgiving and certanly it wasn’t right for  child to suffer so much.  Silently he sobbed for the future of mankind, and the world perhaps, because he didn’t have an orange like the other kids had.

As he lay there crying, a soft hand placed on Jake’s shoulder startled him momentarily as an object was quickly shoved into his hands.  The donor disappeared into the dark of the room, leaving Jake with what he did not immediately identify as an orange.  It was not a regular orchard orange, but it was fabricated from segments of other oranges…..nine other highly prized oranges.  Nine orphan children decided to peel their treasured oranges and give Jake enough sections to make a whole orange.  This meant all of those treasured oranges would need to be eaten right away rather than kept for later.

This beautiful act of compassion showed the true loving spirit of Christmas.  It is said that it is easy to share when you have plenty.  The true test is sharing when you have very little to share.  These little orphans gave more than treasured Christmas orange sections………they gave Jake their love and nothing is of greater value.

Trouble at the Inn

One of my favorite Christmas stories was written by an unknown author.  The story is entitled Trouble at the Inn:

For years now whenever Christmas pagents are talked about in a certain little town in the Midwest, someone is sure to mention the name of Wallace Purling.  Wally’s performance in one annual production of the nativity play has slipped into the realm of legend.  But the old timers who were in the audience that night, never tire of recalling exactly what happened.  Wally was nine that year and in the second grade, though he should have been in the fourth.  Most people in the town knew that he had difficulty in keeping up.  He was big and clumsy, slow in movement and mind.  Still, Wally was well liked by the other children in the class, all of whom were smaller than he.

Wally fancied the idea of being a shepherd with a flute in the Christmas Pagent that year, but the play’s director, Miss Lumbard, assigned him a more important role.  After all, she reasoned, the innkeeper did not have too many lines, and Wally’s size would make his refusal of lodging to Joseph more forceful.

And so it happened that the usual large, partisan audience gathered for the town’s yearly extravaganza.  No one on stage or off was more caught up in the magic of the night than Wallace Purling.  They said later that he stood in the wing and watched the performance with such fascination that from time to time Miss Lumbard had to make sure he didn’t wander on the stage before his cue.

Then the time came when Joseph appeared, slowly, tenderly, guiding Mary to the door of the Inn.  Joseph knocked hard on the wooden door.  Wally, the innkeeper, was there waiting.

“What do you want?” Wally said, swinging the door open whth a brisk gesture.  “We seek lodging,” replied Joseph.  “Seek it elsewhere,” answered Wally looking properly stern and speaking vigerously.  “The Inn is filled.”

“But sir,” said Joseph, “we have asked everywhere in vain.  We have travelled far and are very, very weary.”  “There is no room in this Inn for you,” responded Wally looking straight ahead.  “Please, good innkeeper, this is my wife, Mary.  She is heavy with child and needs a place to rest.  Surely you must have some small corner for her.  She is so  tired.”

Now for the first time, the innkeeper relaxed his stiff stance and looked down at Mary.  With that, there was a long pause, long enough to make the audience a bit tense with embarrassment.  “No!  Be gone!” the prompter whispered from the wings.  “No!” Walley repeated automatically.  “Be gone!”

Joseph sadly placed his arms around Mary and Mary laid her head upon her husband’s shoulder and the two of them started to move away.  The innkeeper did not return inside the Inn.  He just stood there in the doorway watching the forlorn couple.  His mouth was open, his brow was creased with concern, and his eyes filled unmistakenly with tears.  Then suddenly this Christmas Pageant became different for all others.  “Don’t go, Joseph,” Wally called out.  “Bring Mary back.”  Wallace Purling’s face grew into a bright smile.  “You can have my room,” he said.

Some of the town-folk thought the pageant had been ruined.  Yet there were others, many others, who considered it the best Pageant they hade ever seen.”

Something magical happens when a child speaks from the heart.

A Gift is Given

I recently heard a story about a young man named Paul.  Paul’s older brother had some good fortune and wanted to share it with Paul.  So, a couple of days before Christmas he gifted Paul with a beautiful new sports car as a Christmas present.  It was bright shiny red with a flashy chrome grill and sporty spoked hub caps.  It was a beauty and Paul was thrilled.

On the morning of Christmas Eve Paul drove his new car to work to take care of a few last minute details before Christmas.  When Paul came out of his office, a little boy in ragged clothes was walking around his shiny car admiring it.  “Is this your car, mister?”  he asked.  Paul nodded, “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.”  The boy looked astounded, “You mean your brother gave it to you, and it didn’t cost you anything?  Gosh, I wish…….”  He hesitated, and Paul knew what he was going to wish.  He was going to wish he had a brother like that.  But what the boy said jarred Paul all the way down to his bones.  “I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”  Paul was astonished.

The little boy went on to say his little brother had polio and could not walk.  “Someday I’m going to give a car just like this to my brother so he can see how beautiful the world is at Christmas time,”  The little fellow was not concerned about what he could get.  His true focus was not really upon giving the car,  but about the joy he could give to his brother.

As we go about our preparations for this Christmas season let’s remember the sweet spirit of the little ragged boy.  Let’s focus on spreading joy, peace and harmony.  Remember, you cannot give away what you do not have.  Make a conscious effort to bring you own life into harmony.  As you fill your life with joy, peace, and harmony, your world will reflect that back to you.  Those around you are benefited by your positive energy which has a huge ripple effect.  Your positive energy is what the world needs at this Christmas time.

As Christ said, “As ye think, so shall ye be”

Happiness

Brand Blanchard, former Sterling professor emeritus of philosophy at Yale University wrote an essay on the subject of happiness.  He wrote:

“It is important to happiness not to think too much about it.  The person who continually asks himself if he is happy is apt to miss his end.  For happiness is, as Aristotle thought, a by-product of healthful and successful activity.  Bertrand Russell, who wrote The Conquest of Happiness, remarked scientists are generally happier than artists, since they are commonly lost in objective tasks and not examining their own navels.  What is important is to find what one can do  best (generally, also the line most useful to others) and then do it with all one’s might.  Happiness will come unsought.  If one seeks it directly, one will be like the discontented, rich old ladies who haunt Mami hotels.

The main principle of my ethics is:  to act as to make the world as much better place as possible.  I have not lived up to it; no one has.  But trying to live up to it involves constantly looking forward to the consequences of one’s actions, choosing those that are likely to be fruitful, and inhibiting action from impulse.  Many people think, of course, that acting on impulse is a requirement of happiness; and I agree that impulse must be there, the stonger the better, provided it is under control.  But seeking happiness directly, by blindly following one’s impulses, is too likely to end in hippiedom, drugs and the gutter.”

The most important thing I have learned is the necessity of reasonableness.  The person who has the least to regret, who does most for his community, whose judgment carries the most weight and is the most trusted, is the person who is steadfastly and on principle reasonable.  I don’t mean the ‘intellectual’ who is often an impractical bore.  I mean the person who, in matters of belief and matters of action, takes as his principle:  adjust your belief or decision to the evidence..

There is no one ‘meaning of life.’  No two lives have the same value.  The richness of a life depends not on the amount of happiness it achieves but on finding out who one is – i.e., about one’s unique combination of powers – and then discovering through experiment and reflection what course of life will fulfill those powers most completely.”

What are your unique powers?  There are probably several things you can do especially well…things you enjoy doing that will automatically provide great service to others.  If you can figure out a way to use these special talents in service to others and make that your main focus, you have a very good chance leading a life filled with happiness.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.    It’s a time for family gatherings, feasts, a special day set aside to give thanks to God for the abundance of our lives.  I was listening yesterday to a radio talk show.  The discussion was about  the commercialism of Christmas and the fact that retailers are now infringing upon Thanksgiving day to promote Christmas sales.  A few years ago, “Black Friday” began very early at some stores which opened at 5:00 a.m.  Then some stores decided that wasn’t good enough so they began opening at midnight.  This year in an effort to ‘Best’ one another some stores opened at 9:00 PM on Thanksgiving day.  The general discussion was about preserving Thanksgiving day as a day of prayer and letting retailers know we are not going to shop on Thanksgiving Day.  Stores will not open on Thanksgiving Day if shoppers do not participate.  I was amused when one lady called in to say she was going to the sale on Thanksgiving at 9:00 PM because she “has to.”  she justified herself by saying the bargains were so amazing that if she did not go she could not give her children the Christmas they deserved.  She wished she didn’t have to buy on Thanksgiving day, but the greedy retailers made it impossible not to buy.

Three thoughts jumped out at me.  First, what does it mean to be greedy?  It’s easy to look at others (the retailers) and accuse them of being greedy, but isn’t this lady a bit greedy too?  She wants to get more for her children than she can afford.  Isn’t that greedy also?

Second, assuming that you can make children happy by giving them expensive gifts you cannot afford is a false assumption.  Happiness is and always will be an inside job.  Some of the happiest people on earth don’t have a lot in terms of material assets.

Third, when you say, “I have to” you make yourself a victim.   In reality the only thing you “have to” do is take up space.  As long as your soul inhabits a body you have no choice but to take up space.  Everything else is a choice.  You do not “have to” do anything.  Accept responsibility for your choices knowing there are consequences you must also accept.

I’m not saying it is wrong for anyone to shop on Thanksgiving day if that is what they want to do.  Just recognize the truth of the situation.  On the other hand if you think it is important to set aside one day each year as a day of  family gatherings, feasting and prayer in thankful appreciation for the bounty we enjoy, then keep it that way and allow others the same privilege.

What’s up with 12-21-2012?

There’s a lot of speculation about the date 12-21-2012, especially since it is the ending date of the Mayan calendar.  But what do we actually know about the date.  Other than being the ending date of the Mayan Calendar, is anything else known about this date?  As it turns out, science has a lot to say about 12-21-2012.

Science tells us there is  a black hole in the center of the Milky Way.  This black hole has a very powerful energy field that directly affects life on earth.  Our solar system travels around this core with earth on the fringe of the Milky Way.   The Milky Way is so symmetrical that a line can be drawn through the center representing a galactic equator.  Scienctists now know that life on earth is affected by our rotation through the universe.  This rotation is not circular but is an ellipse.  Earth is affected by the gravatational pull of both the sun and the moon.  The sun’s magnetic field pulls in one direction while the moon’s gravity pulls the earth in an opposite direction.  This tug and pull causes the earth to wobble in its rotation.  One wobble and one complete rotation of the earth through the galaxy takes about 25,625 years.  On the date of 12-21-2012 the earth’s equator and the galactic equator will be in perfect allignment.  This allignment gives earth direct access to the powerful energy emitted from the black hole for a small window of time.  Next to the galactic black hole is a star that is 100 times brighter than the sun making it the brightest star in the Milky Way.  On 12-21-2012 earth will be at the greatest distance from that light.

Ancient traditions divide the earth’s 25,625 year orbit through the  12 constellations of the zodiac into five World Ages lasting 5,125 years each.  This is called the procession of the equinoxes.  What is significant is the end of the  one complete rotation through the universe of 25,625 years and the end of the fifth 5,125 world age happen simultaneously on the date of 12-21-2012.

Most of our problems with global warming, the weakening magnetic field, shifts in climate causing violent weather patterns, earth quakes and raging fires in multiplke locations around the globe are because of the position of earth in its rotation.  Scientists  have studied sea sediment and drilled actic ice cores, studied sea levels and the affects of our sun’s radiant energy.  They have determined that the earth’s magnetic field and global warming are about where they were at the end of the last 25,625 year rotation.

We as human beings are being gretly affected by earth’s position in the universe.  In the past 25 years there are thirty new deseases without medical cures.  The use of prescription drugs has multiplied ten times.  Some areas of the world are experiencing food shortages.  Conflicts in our world are less about borders and more about conflicting ideas.   Human extremes and personal extremes are being brought to the forefront.

The good news is these changes will not take eons of time to resolve.  We entered into this cycle in about 1980 so we have experienced many of these changes already.  It is believed things will stabalize by the year 2016.

We are at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.  Our ancient ancestors who lived through the end of the last world age did their best to leave us information to help us navagate through these times.  They spoke of the end of time and the shift of the ages.  They told us we need to work together, that we are one.  The answers to our survival depend on our ability to work together.  Our world is not ending, but it is changing.   As we step up to our responsibilities to nuture and care for one another and our earth we will find the answers necessary to adjust and bring our world into a new age of peace.  I believe love is and always will be the answer.  Love for our earth and love for one another is the secret to our survival.
