Never Do Anything You Have To Do

choicesOften as I do something for another, the comment is made; “You don’t have to do that.”  My reply is always; “I don’t do anything because I have to do it.  I do what I choose to do.”   Life gets better when we own our choices and accept responsibility for them.  None of us “have” to do anything.  In fact, there is only one thing we “have” to do and that is take up space.  Our bodies have to take up space and that’s all there is to that!  Everything else is a choice.

How can that be true, you say?  “I have to change the baby’s diaper…..I have to pay my taxes….I have to go to work,”……….and on and on it goes.   But the truth is, “No,  you do not!”  Everything is a choice, but there are consequences.  Often we choose to do  something rather than accept the consequences of not doing it.   But recognize you are making a choice.   You choose to change a baby’s diaper because if you do not, the baby will get a rash and the smell is unpleasant.  You choose to pay your taxes because you do not want to go to prison.  You choose to go to work because you do not want to be broke and homeless.  And there are times when you would rather accept the consequences for not doing a thing.  But it is our choice, so we accept the consequences.

Many people go through life feeling like a victim.   They never recognize the decisions they’ve been making.  When you say I “have to” it implies you are a victim and have no choice.  But that is not the truth.  You do have a choice.  When you accept responsibility for your choices,  it is liberating.   You cannot be a victim if you are choosing your course of action.

For now Earlynn’s just sayin’; “Next time you are tempted to say; ‘I have to’,  change it to;  ‘I want to’‘I choose to’ , or I am going to’.  It feels so good to recognize that it is indeed your choice.”

Over the years I have read, studied and prayed that God would use me to bring comfort to troubled minds. I am a master cake decorator, I love gardening, I am passionate about health and nutrition. I love parties and gatherings of family and friends. I love cooking and at least twice each year I host dinner for 50. I love writing, teaching and public speaking. I love my sweetheart. We met when we were only 10 years old and will soon celebrate our 50th anniversary. Everything I do is centered on my spiritual beliefs and I know love is the answer to all of life's problems. Join me on my web site as we explore many ideas, laugh a little and love a lot.
