The Law of Least Effort

In his book, The Art of Dreaming, Don Juan tells Carlos Castaneda, “…most of our energy goes into upholding our importance….If we were capable of losing some of that importance, two extraordinary things would happen to us.  One, we would free our energy from trying to maintain the illusory idea of our grandeur; and two, we would provide ourselves with enough energy to…catch a glimpse of the actual grandeur of the universe.”

In other words, most of us for most of the time are so absorbed with proving to the world how wonderful we are that we cannot see the granduer of the universe.  The Law of Least Effort is based on the fact that nature’s intellegence functions with ease and carefreeness.  It is the principle of harmony and love.  When we understand this lesson from nature, we will easily fulfill our desires.

Consider this;  grass doesn’t try to grow, nor do flowers try to blooom.  Grass just grows and flowers just bloom, fish just swim and birds just fly and the earth just spins on its own axis.  It is the nature of stars to sparkle and the nature of the sun to shine.  And it is human nature to make our dreams manifest into physical form.  Nature’s intelligence functions effortlessly and spontaneously.  When you are in harmony with nature, you make use of the Law of Least Effort.  When your actions are motivated by love the least effort is expended because nature is held together by the energy of love.  When actions are based in love, energy multiplies and is not wasted.

Deepak Chopra in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Successwrites there are three components to the Law of Least Effort…..three things you can do to access this principle of “do less and accomplish more.”

First, is acceptance.  “Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances and events as they occur.”  Accept this moment as it is because the entire universe is as it is.  Accept things as they are, not as you wish they were.  You can wish for things to be different in the future, but this moment is here now and things are as they are.

Second, is responsibility.  Don’t blame anyone or anything for your situation.  Accepting the situation allows you to be responsibile for making a creative response to the problem as it is now.  All problems have the seeds of opportunity within them.  This awareness allows you to take the moment and transform it to a better situation.  Some of your greatest challenges will become your greatest triumphs.  And every tormentor or tyrant is your teacher.  Tell yourself, “This moment is as it should be.”  Whatever relationships you have attracted in your life at this moment are precisely the ones you need.  Look for the hidden meaning behind all events and know they are helping you become all that you can be.

Third is defenselessness.  Let go of the need to convince or persuade others of your point of view.  If you observe people around you, you’ll see that they spend 99% of their time defending their points of view.  If you just let go of that need to defend yourself, you will gain access to enormous amounts of energy that have previously been wasted.    Anytime you encounter resistance, remember that if you force the situation, the resistance will only increase.  Stop trying to defend your point of view and you will avoid being caught up in arguments.  When you stay in the present moment and you stop fighting and resisting you will begin to enjoy and merge with it.  As you drop the terrible burdens and encumbrances of defensiveness, resentment and hurfulness, you become lighthearted, carefree, joyous and free.

Make a commitment to follow the path of no resistance.  This is the path through which nature’s intellegence unfolds effortlessly without friction or effort.  The combination of acceptance, responsibility and defenselessness  will allow you to experience life flowing with effortless ease.  And when you hear that faint idea coming from your heart, you will be able to manifest it effortlessly.  This is the Law of Least Effort.

For now, Earlynn’s just sayin’; “When we are doing what we truly love we are in harmony with nature and the Law of Least Effort will aid us.”
