Recently I was reminded of the story of James Twyman. James says that when he was seventeen years old he visited a magic shop and found a little booklet called Hellstromism. The book was about a unique form of mentalism. Basically it teaches that when someone thinks about a thing very subtle physical reactions accompany the thought. The author of the book, Alex Hellstrom, made a career performing this “magic”. He would have people hide things in a theatre or other places. Then he would seemingly read their minds and find the hidden objects.
James was fascinated with this mind reading and began practicing for anyone who was willing to work with him. It didn’t take long for him to master the technique. Then he had an idea to have someone to hide a book anywhere in the continental United States, then he would find it. Finally the president of Hay House, Reid Tracy, decided to engage in a bet. The bet was if James could find the hidden book, Hay House would donate $50,000.00 to the Hay House Foundation. If James was not able to locate the book the donation would be made by James.
James found a volunteer who was given the book and $1,000.00 to hide the book anywhere within the continental U.S. The only stipulation was the book had to be hidden in an accessible place and could not be locked up somewhere. After the book was hidden, the volunteer, a young lady, returned to meet with James. The instructions were given to think of the place where the book was hidden. At times James asked her to think “Stop” in her mind only as his hand moved across a map to the city in which the book was hidden. James decided the book was hidden in Seattle. The volunteer went with him to Seattle. He asked her to continually think about the place the book was hidden. After a short while James was led to a small park by the Space Needle where he found the book.
James Twyman has since written the book, The Proof. He says; “There is a bond that exists between us, an unseen link that unites us and satisfies us in ways that noting else can. In the end, what we’re seeking isn’t the riches of the world, but the richness of our souls; and this can only come from realizing that we are connected and whole. Simply put: we are One”.
You can watch a free video on YouTube, The Proof Movie. It’s fascinating.
