It’s Lilly Time!

For many years Kermit and I have been adding lilies to our landscape.  This year is really a pay-off year!  We’ve got wild lilies, miniature lilies, day lilies, standard lillies and lily trees.  The colors are pale pink, dark red, orange, yellow, choral, gold, and white.  Most have contrasting throats with ruffled edges.  Some blooms are dollar-sized while others are the size of grapefruit, but are all beautiful.  Every morning I rush out to see who is blooming today.  I talk to my flowers.  I really do.  I thank them for sharing their beauty and I thank God for providing such beauty.  Many plants are useful for food, for fiber, for shelter, for herbal therapies and perfumes.  But mostly flowers are here to adorn mother earth  and add to our enjoyment.  I love the flowers that grow and bloom around my home.  They bless me with their fragrance and stunning beauty.  And on days when everything seems to off track I can look into the face of a flower and know God is near.

I too love lilies and I love to go for a daily wander through my garden to see what’s newly blossoming! It’s one my favorite summer rituals. Just today I discovered a Lilly that grows wild all over the place here in Kodiak – the Chocolate Lilly. It’s absolutely beautiful! The blossoms are deep purplish brown and seem to be the same texture as the leaves…..sooo pretty!
